Trip Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake is an adventure-filled yet heavenly trek of the Everest region. Trek offers nature’s beauty through Gokyo Lakes, Cho La Pass, Gokyo Ri viewpoint, and the Everest Base Camp. Among the highest mountains in the world, you will get to see Everest, Pumori, Amadablam, Cho yo, Lhotse, and many more. Unique things to experience in the Khumbu region are highland human settlement, wildlife, flora, and fauna.

The Everest Base Camp trek with Gokyo Lake follows a different path than the traditional EBC trek trail. As it goes through different routes making almost a circle, you don’t need to return to the same path. Compared to the Everest base camp trek trail this trail will be peaceful and quiet.

Like every other trek of the Khumbu region, this trek will also start from Lukla and then to Namche Bazar. From Namche Bazar we will head towards Dole village, leaving the classical EBC trek route on the other side.

Dole is a beautiful Sherpa village from where you can witness the spectacular view of Mount Ama Dablam and Khumbila. Traversing through Pine forest we will head further North towards Machhermo village. Machhermo offers with majestic view of Mount Cho Oyu which is the fifth tallest mountain in the Globe.

The next destination from Machhermo village is Gokyo Valley, which is adorned by five Lakes and a snowy ambiance. Those lakes used to be frozen during winter months and partially frozen even in spring. Gokyo Valley seems like a hidden treasure of nature. Another memory of this trek will be an early morning hike to the Gokyo Ri viewpoint to catch the first ray of the sun. You will spend another exploration day in Gokyo Valley as an acclimatization day and enjoy the scenery.

Our path will head toward the Base Camp following the rocky, uneven trail to reach Thangnak village. We need to pass through Ngozumpa Glacier and many Yak pastures en route to reach Thangnak. Another challenging pass is Cho La Pass which connects the Gokyo region with the Everest region. We will be walking above the glacier to climb Cho La Pass then walk downhill to reach Dzongla.

Finally, on the eleventh day of the trek, we will reach the Everest Base Camp. From Lobuche, we will reach Gorakshep, where we will rest our backpacks and then hike towards the Base Camp. To reach the base camp from Lobuche, we will walk alongside and through the Khumbu Glacier.

After reaching the Everest Base Camp, you will not remain the same person, you will be filled with joy, and be more determined and confident. One needs physical stamina and mental determination to reach the Everest Base Camp.  After capturing a few pictures at the Base Camp, we will return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay. The following morning we will have an early morning hike to Kalapatthar to witness a glorious sunrise and panorama of the highest peaks including Mount Everest. Kala Patthar is another remarkable place in the Khumbu region.

On the 12th day, we start descending towards Lukla. We will make Pheriche, Namche Bazaar, and Lukla our overnight destination before flying back to Kathmandu. If everything goes as planned we will return to Kathmandu on our fifteenth day of the trek.

We recommend our guests have a few days extra before or after the trek in case of weather emergencies and flight delays. Everest region is very vulnerable to weather fluctuations.
