Overview

Do you have Nepal’s Everest Region on the bucket list? If you have you must have heard of three high passes of Everest Region. Sagarmatha National Park is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and houses high peaks including the world’s highest Mount Everest (8,848 m). Numerous glaciers, mountains, species like snow Leopard, deep valleys, and rich cultural human settlements make the national park even richer.

The Everest Three High Passes trek is getting popular among adventure lovers around the world. Cho La (5,360m), Renjo La (5,420m), and Kongma La (5,560m) are considered challenging passes of the Everest region. The scenic panoramic view from all three passes sweeps away all the suffering to get to the peak of either pass. You not only get to see the beauty of the highest peaks but also numerous small peaks. Can you imagine yourself being above the Himalayas? You can witness the glory of Mt Everest (8848m), Makalu (8463m) Lhotse(8516m), Cho Oyo (8201m),  including  Amadablem, Cholatse, Pumori, Khumbutse, Labuche east and west and many more.

All three passes offer different landscapes and perspectives of the mountainous terrain of the Everest region.

Your trek begins with a thrilling mountain flight to Lukla. You will follow the trail along the Dudhkoshi River through Phakding. More than a beautiful scenic view you will get to explore age-old Sherpa culture and their unique way of life. Trekking trail varies from steep, rocky, and ragged. You pass through numerous Sherpa towns including Namche Bazaar, Dingbuche, Labuche, and Gorekhshep. Everest Base camp visit, a Hike to Everest View Hotel, Kalapatthar, and three high passes will be the special highlights of the trek.

Itinerary

Day Day 01.: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350 meters / 4429 feet)

On the day of your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu one of our team BMS members will be there to welcome you. You will be taken to your hotel, where you may check in, rest, or relax. You will be provided with a short overview of your trek from tomorrow. As there will be no planned activities for today you may relax in your hotel room or stroll around the hotel. Your overnight stay will be in a hotel. B.B. Plan.

Day Day 02.: Fly to Lukla (2,840m / 9,317 feet) and Trek to Phakding (2,610 meters / 8,562 feet) Duration: 3-4 hrs

We will take an early morning 30-minute flight to Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla which is the airport located at the highest altitude in the world. Your flight experience to Lukla will be the most scenic and thrilling. Today will be your first day in the mountains. From Lukla airport, we will hike towards Phakding which will be our destination for tonight. Overnight stay will be at a teahouse in Phakding. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 03.: Phakding to Namche Bazar (3,440 meters / 11,286 feet) Duration: 5-6 hrs

You will wake up with the cool mountain breeze and your day will start with a delicious breakfast in Phakding. After breakfast, we will trail towards Namche Bazar traversing the Rhododendron forest. We will walk along amazing scenery such as the Dudh Koshi River, Bhote Koshi River, and many more. We will be warmly welcomed by Namche Bazar which is the historic Sherpa settlement in the lap of mountains. Namche Bazar is known as the gateway to Everest. Overnight stay will be at the Guest house in Namche Bazar. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 04.: Acclimatization Day Duration: 4-5 hrs

As an acclimatization day, we will stroll around the Namche Bazar. We will have an easy day hike to Everest View Hotel to see Mt. Everest including other eye-catching mountain views. Another purpose of a hike is to adjust your body in high elevation or to stay away from altitude sickness. The other highlight of the day is exploring Sherpa culture and visiting Khuda and Khumjung Village. Return back to Namche Bazar again. Our overnight stay will be at the Guest House in Namche. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 05.: Namche to Tengboche (3,860 meters / 12,664 feet) Duration: 4-5 hrs

After breakfast, we will start our day ascending to our next destination. we will walk along the Dudh Koshi River and the fascinating forest of Rhododendrons; the national flower of Nepal. We will get a chance to see multi-color pheasants, musk deer, Himalayan Thar, and more along the trekking path. We will even get to see one of the largest monasteries in the Khumbu Region; Tengboche Monastery. Obviously, we will be seeing pearly mountains one after another throughout the day. Our overnight stay will be at a Tea House in Tengboche. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 06.: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410 meters / 14,468 feet) Duration: 5-6 hrs

We will have our warm and delicious breakfast at the hotel then we will head towards our today’s destination. As altitude climbs up, the terrain looks drier and the wind hits harder. Another adventurous day but you will be rewarded with picturesque glittering mountains and vibes of warm-hearted people. We will pass through one of the biggest Sherpa villages of the Khumbu region; Pangbouche village. With further walk from Pangbouche, we will step into Dingboche. Our overnight stay will be at the Tea House in Dingboche. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 07.: Acclimatization at Dingboche

Today will be the 2nd acclimatization of our trek at Dingboche. After a warm breakfast, we will hike up to Nagarjuna Hill, which is above 5000 meters.  Acclimatization is very crucial to stay away from the symptoms of altitude sickness. Day hikes to Nagarjun Hill will help us to acclimatize at the same time reward us with beautiful scenery. From the top of Nagarjun Hill, we will be able to see the panoramic close-up view of the white snow-capped peaks of Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and many more. Our overnight stay will be at the same tea house at Dingboche. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 08.: Dingbuche to Chhukung Village (4700m/15,416ft) Duration: 5-6 hours

Today will be a more fun day; you walk along the Imja Valley and reach Chhukung village (4700m/15,416ft), it will take around 2 hours, we can have a Lunch break, then after we hike to Chhukung Ri (5540m/18171ft), from the top, if the sky is clear than, we will able to see the very close-up view of Lhoste, Makalu, Island Peak, Ama Dablam and many more, and back down to Chhukung village. Our overnight stay will be at the Teahouse of Chhukung Village. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 09.: Chhukung Village to Kongma La Pass to Labuche (4,940 meters/16,207 feet)

Today will be an exciting day as we will need to cross through the Kongma La pass. Kongma La is located at an elevation of 5,550 meters/ 18,209 feet from the sea level. We will start our day early in the morning. We will carry enough dry food and water for the day. We may even pack our lunch from Chhukung Village. Kongma La Pass rewards us with incredible natural landscapes, mountains, and pristine blue sky. We will spend a few times at the top taking pictures. We will carefully descend down from the Kongma La pass, as we will need to cross the Glacier. Our tonight’s destination is Labuche Village. Overnight stay will be at a tea house in Labuche. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 10.: Labuche to Gorakshep (5,164 meters/16,942 feet) to Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters / 17,598 feet)

Today is a more exciting and hard day. From Labuche the trail leads a flat meadow for when following the Khumbu Glacier and climbing up. After that, the trail goes into the lateral moraine of Khumbu Glacier to Gorakshep. The trail offers a beautiful view of the massive Khumbu Glacier and Trans Himalayas. When we reach Gorakshep we can take off the bag pack at the tea house and have our Lunch. After Lunch at Gorakshep, we will hike towards the Everest Base Camp. The Everest Base Camp is located at an altitude of 5,364 meters / 17,598 feet from the sea level. You can enjoy the beauty of the base camp and capture a few pictures. We will return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 11.: Gorakshep to Kalapatthar to Zhong La (4,870 meters/ 15,977 feet)

We will wake up very early in the morning to start the hike towards Kalapatthar. Kalapatthar is located above the Everest Base Camp, at an altitude of 5,644 meters / 18,517 feet from sea level. Magnificient Sunrise and 360 views of the panoramic Himalayas are the special attractions of Kalapatthar. It may take 2-3 hours for us to climb up and return from Kalapatthar. After returning we will have a delicious breakfast and then descend down towards Zhong La Village. Our overnight stay will be at a tea house in Zhong La. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 12.: Zhong La to Chola Pass to Thangnak Village (4,690 meters / 15,387 feet)

Another exciting day of our trek will begin with the cool mountain breeze of Zhong La. After having an early morning breakfast we will start hiking towards Chola Pass. Chola Pass is also one of three high passes of the Everest Region. A picturesque view from the top of the Chola pass will take away the tiredness. We will spend a few quality minutes at the top, capturing pictures and enjoying the panorama. You can witness the beautiful close-up of Cholatse Peak (6,440 meters). We will carefully descend from Chola Pass to Thangnak Village. Our tonight’s stay will be at a tea house in Thangnak Village. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 13.: Thangnak Village to Gokyo Lake (4,780 meters / 15,682 feet)

Today will be a short hike and an easy day compared to the previous days of our trek. After a warm breakfast at Thangnak, we will hike towards Gokyo Village. Gokyo Village is a beautiful mountain village located on the bank of Gokyo Lake. The altitude of Gokyo Village is 4,800 meters from the sea level. Gokyo Lake is the most popular Glacier lake in the Everest Region. Our tonight’s stay will be at a teahouse in Gokyo village. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 14.: Gokyo Village to Gokyo Ri (5,490 meters / 18,011 feet)

We will do an early morning hike towards Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri offers enchanting sunrise and Himalayan range views. We will spend a few hours at the top of Gokyo Ri admiring the beauty of natural landscapes. Gokyo region feels like a piece of heaven on the earth. After spending a memorable time at Gokyo Ri we will descend down to the Gokyo Village. Today will be another day to explore the Gokyo Village and lake. Tonight’s stay will be at the same tea house at Gokyo Village. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 15.: Gokyo Village to Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters / 17,585 feet) to Lunden

We will wake up very early in the morning to start our hike towards Renjo La Pass. Today will be an exciting and adventurous trek through the remote northern valley of the region. We may get a chance to meet Tibetan traders descending from the Nangpa La Pass that leads through the Himalayas. From Renjo La Pass we will trek towards Luden village. Tonight’s stay will be at Luden. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 16.: Lunden to Thame (3,800 meters / 12,467 feet)

After having a warm and delicious breakfast at Luden, we will descend towards Thame. From today our trek’s altitude will decrease gradually. We may encounter Tibetan traders en route to Thame. Our tonight’s stay will be at Thame. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 17.: Thame to Namche Bazar (3,440 meters / 11,286 feet)

After an early morning breakfast, we will descend down towards Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar will welcome us with the beauty of the town’s chaos and mountains. Our tonight’s stay will be at a hotel at Namche Bazar. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 18.: Namche Bazar to Phakding to Lukla

Today will be our final day of trekking in the region. After having an early morning breakfast at Thame we will descend towards Phakding and to Lukla. We will return to witness the beauty of natural terrain, rivers, and many more. Our tonight’s stay will be at a guest house at Lukla. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Day Day 19.: Lukla to Kathmandu

We will have an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. We may fly directly to Kathmandu or Ramechhap Airport. After a safe return, your trek guide will drive you to your hotel. Kathmandu Valley is also an ancient historic city with numerous world heritage sites. If you have free days you can contact us for a city tour or world heritage sites tour around the valley. Your overnight stay will be at a hotel in Kathmandu. Breakfast included.

What to pack in your bag?

If you are planning your trip to a Himalayan country you should consider packing some warm clothes. in mountain weather keeps changing, we can find different weather on the same day. Weather in the mountains tends to be windy to sunny to wet so we have listed a few things as a checklist for you.

For head:

  • hat or p-cap to prevent the face from sunburn
  • woolen cap to keep warmth
  • scarf or muffler
  • the face mask as a virus precaution and protects your nose from heavy wind
  • sunglasses to protect the eyes and to see better in mountain

For feet and hands

  • warm gloves
  • Sandal and sneakers
  • Thin cotton socks and thick woolen socks

Trekking special items

  • sticks (which you can hire at Thamel, Kathmandu as well)

Food during the trek

Any kind of food is available during the trek. Guesthouses have a menu that consists of both international cuisine and local Nepali cuisine. You can also try new cuisine which you haven’t tried before. Here are a few breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that are commonly found during the trek.

Breakfast

We can have a wide range of options for breakfast such as omelets, bread, cornflakes, cookies, oats, pancakes, milk, tea, coffee, hot lemon, boiled or fried beans, etc. Somewhere you get traditional breakfast items such as Gurung bread (a famous breakfast in the Annapurna region), cell roti, puri, roti curry, etc.

Lunch and Dinner

Traditional Nepali lunch and dinner is Nepali khana consisting of Lentil soup, Rice, curry, pickle, and some salad. There is a famous saying around trekking areas “Dal Bhat power twenty-four hour” which means Nepali khana’s strength remains for twenty-four hours. For instance, other than Nepali khana you can have varieties for lunch like; pizza, momo, chowmein, fried rice, noodles, spaghetti, soups, naan roti, etc lunch and dinner menus look similar you can choose as per your comfort, and preference.
